Useful observations

  • One device versus multiple users
  • Wired versus wireless behavior
  • Internet access versus local resources
  • Time of day and recent equipment changes

Record the pattern before changing equipment

When an interruption returns, write down the time, affected device and service being used. Compare a wired computer with a wireless device if both are already available. Note whether local printing or shared files continue to work when internet access fails. Those observations help narrow the investigation.

Mention any recent router, access-point, cabling or provider changes. Keep a record of restarts and whether they temporarily helped. For a business outage, identify an authorized contact and the most urgent affected workflow. Existing provider fault references can also help coordinate the next step.

Before we get started

Share error messages and which services still work. Avoid resetting network equipment to factory defaults before the configuration and recovery plan are understood.
