Server support discussions
- Operating-system and application symptoms
- User access and shared resources
- Storage capacity and maintenance needs
- Backup coverage and restore responsibilities
Plan changes around dependent services
A server may support shared files, authentication, backups or a business application. Identify those dependencies and the users affected before arranging maintenance. Include the platform, equipment owner and any application provider that needs to participate.
Discuss available backups, a recovery approach and a suitable maintenance window before significant changes. The handover should check the agreed services from a user perspective, not just whether the server starts. Keep licensing, account ownership and ongoing monitoring responsibilities clear in the work scope.
Before we get started
Identify the affected service, user impact and available recovery copies. Planned changes should have an agreed maintenance window and rollback approach.
